Going Postal With Outdoor Speakers

I am working hard on documenting some of the solutions and ideas that I come up with. I recently purchased Camtasia (great application) to help me put together videos. This is the first! More to come.

Putting Green Project – 1

leave a comment

While we decided that this summer was to be the ‘Summer of Love,’ (which to Laura and I meant that we would try to be lazy and enjoy our weekends by the pool) it is turning out to be another summer of big projects! Last summer it was the built in BBQ, the deck, lots of gravel pathways and so much more. This summer we did a major garage clean-up and re-organize.

We also started edging some of our pathways with broken up concrete that I have been salvaging from people who are doing demolition of sidewalks, etc. It’s a great way to be ‘green’ and if you are willing to take a little more time with the construction part, it looks fantastic. These pathways led to looking at the backyard and our awful lawn (I use the word ‘lawn’ loosely). We discussed hard-scaping and then it happened: Laura suggested a putting green. Yes, it was Laura.

So… as the project progresses, I decided to document the process. Step one was finding sources for broken concrete (good ole’ Craigs List is doing the trick). I am currently up to my 10th load and expect to need even more. After learning that we will need to allow for 4″ or so for the gravel and sand (the underlayment for the synthetic surface), I went about planning the shape. I used a long garden hose to map out my plan. Then used my trusty tractor to rip up the lawn. I spent a little time leveling things off a bit. I’m sure the gophers were having a great time during this part!
